My rating is really a 3.5, but no way to rate it.The place is not in the best location, and don't expect any customer service. Food: I ordered the 1/2 chicken combo, which came with fries & coleslaw. The chicken was fresh, hot, and crispy. It was actually very good. The reason for my 3 rating is because the chicken was sooooo small. Our 6 pieces were not worth the $8.54. So ask is the chicken is grown before you.place your order.

Good, freshly fried wings -and cheap. That's what I'm talkin' about!
(4)James H.
The wings are still small and the seafood is real fishy. The service is not the best either.
(3)Vino L.
I'm in agreement with everyone else, the chicken here is good! I'd choose it over Popeye's, KFC, and Royal Farms. With that being said, I can't say everything else was equally as good. With a name like "Hip Hop" whatever...we knew what we were potentially walking into when we pulled up and didn't have high standards for appearance and ambience. Cleanliness, yes...ambience, no. This place is your typical fast food joint or possibly a notch below. The building looks as if it's had a few turnovers and probably a handful of name, sign, cuisine, and owner changes. You know the type of establishment I'm describing, right? The drive-thru is permanently closed and appears to have been defunct for years. The inside is not the cleanest, but it doesn't scream unsanitary either. We ordered a chicken breast and tilapia combo, shrimp (10) and chicken wing combo, side of okra, side of hush puppies, banana pudding, and a bean pie to-go. The combos came with fries, cole slaw, and two slices of white bread. We didn't touch the bread and I was told the cole slaw was gross before I even attempted to give it a try. It looked a little watery. Anyway, the fish wasn't bad and the fries were decent. We would have rated the okra and fries as great, however they sprinkle this really weird powder on things that tastes like an odd mix of salt and powdered sugar. It's really peculiar tasting and has no place on the food. You'll see it in my pictures but it's totally unnecessary and if you can have it omitted when ordering, I would. I'm glad we experienced a variety, to include their seafood, but I'd just stick to their fried chicken because they seem to do that well minus that weird powder mix. The chicken was crispy, piping hot, and seasoned well. Naturally it was a deep fried-cholesterol-artery filling overload, which left me feeling sluggish afterwards, but that was to be expected given that it's all fried food. The dessert was horrible. The banana pudding didn't contain real bananas and the bean pie appeared to be very old. I'm always leery of alleged homemade baked goods of this kind that don't state an expiration or creation date and these desserts validated that concern. We both took a few bites and tossed more than 3/4's of the desserts in the trash. All of our food came out quickly with about a 10 minute wait. The portion sizes were huge and we both had enough for leftovers for a full meal the following day, if fried foods were worth reheating. The customer service was nothing to write home about...no greetings, smiles, etc...but previous yelpers warned of this. When in the mood for fried chicken and when I need my fix every three months or so, I'd return just for the chicken...not the seafood or desserts. Enjoy!

I read the mixed reviews and decided to drive by the restaurant to take a look see. When I pulled into the parking lot I couldn't help but notice all the people in the restaurant, so I decided to join and see what it all about. Wow was i glad I decided to try this place out. The catfish and chicken legs were fried to perfection. Oh and they weren't stingy with the portions. The only thing I could find wring with the restaurant was the temperature inside was kinda cold. If looking for good comfort food it's a must
(4)Scott M.
Chicken strips here are the best in town. But the music is too much
(3)Rebecca H.
I'm literally eating a meal of fried wings, french fries and hush puppies as I write this review...so please mind the drooling heh. First of all....they cook your food to order but the wait is SO SO worth it. The fried chicken has a light layer of sugar on the skin that adds a full flavored quality to this normal savory/salty meal. It's light so the sweet does not take away from the savory, only add. The hush puppies are yummy as well, not dry like from places I've ordered them from and the fries are crunchy and awesome. You will not be disappointed.
(5)B'more f.
Dont't care much about their fries or chicken ( good but not great). But the fried cat fish filet is out of this world eaten right there.

Hello all y'all trolls Get a grip troll-yelper Yeah, this freestyle review is dedicated To all the yelpers that told me I'd never amount to nothing To all the yelpers that rsvp'd at the restaurants that I was waiting in front of That called the community managers on me When I was just trying to yelp some reviews while feeding myself And all the yelpers in the struggle You know what I'm saying It's all good baby baby Headed up to GB to visit my family Stopped by Hip Hop Fish & Chicken, for a fixin Stepped up to the counter to order Spontaneously yelled "Catfish n Chicken combo" Experienced no hesitation, no despair as 10 minutes later The Fried goodness was on the counter Packaged up in swag, it kept my food hella hot Like honeyz from sir-mix-a-lot But this baby chicken didn't had back As there was breast, leg, wing to consume It was seasoned with salt, pepper, paprika, pinch of cinnamon Making a brother holla similar to an ----sm The Cat Fish was fresh and included a scale to my surprise Fortunately the Fried Chicken sensationalize My taste buds and tongue As I nibbled on the meat to the dirty bone Fries were well seasoned, tasty and delicious With no excess grease, making me feel quite suspicious I must of consumed a gazillion calories Which don't bother me, as live to eat and eat to live Resembling what Nasty Nas once said "Mmm, fried chicken, fly vixen / Give me heart disease but need you in my kitchen."

Really 3.5+ stars if I could so such a rating The good: chicken is fried fresh so skin is crispy and whatever powder they put on it is amazing. Could easily be sold at a high end joint in SF. Wished that the chicken could be moister like kfc chicken but it wasn't a deal breaker. Moist chicken is my preference for chicken so I'd likely choose kfc over this place overall. I will give it props for being Not too salty but flavorful enough The bad: sketch area. It was a long five minutes waiting for the chicken. Probably wouldn't ever sit and eat in the store I don't love fried chicken enough to deal with the inconvenience so I'm glad I tried it but unlikely to go back. if you do love you some Popeyes or fried food this is a good place to check out.
(4)Penni L.
I love this place. There is a nice variety of items on the menu, most of which is prepared while you wait. With that said, the food is always served hot. I love the fried chicken, whiting, livers and gizzards. You can't beat the prices either! I will definitely return, especially on the days that I don't feel like cooking.
(4)Somany Q.
What can I say... A neighborhood carry out type of place, with great food. Chicken and fish seasoned and fried to perfection and a large variety of desserts as well.
(4)Ma-e M.
I did not dance with excitement when I went in. But who would not want fried food in a form of fish and chicken, only if you are health nuts. If you are not, you might want to consider this restaurant. I ordered trout and chicken wings with fried eggplant at $10.50. It's good for two; 2 medium trout and 4 wings to split that is in the to-go box.
(3)Jay S.
The breading on the chicken and fish is excellent. The side serving of coleslaw comes in a very tiny container and didn't taste that great.
(4)Nichelle K.
This place is so good! I've been to this location twice and the one in Baltimore once... I literally drove over an hour just to eat here. Hands down the best fast food chicken & fish! The food is fried and seasoned to perfection. The prices are equally as amazing, it's cheap for the amount of food they give you. The portion size is enough to give you diabetes. The banana pudding is fattening and delicious so is the fired chicken and catfish. Plan on going to the gym before you go to Hip-Hop Fish & Chicken, you're going to need to shred at least 1000 calories for the fried deliciousness that'll you'll be consuming. If you thinking, "Oh, I can make it to the gym a few hours after I eat," don't count on that, you'll immediately want to pass out after you eat the food here. Then everything consumed will give you a fat booty because your lazy yet satisfied self won't want to move. I think one of the only negatives I have about this place is that it's not in the slightest bit visually appealing. I mean the decor is non-existent, the tables, chairs-- everything looks cheap... Oh and the menu is massive and hard to look at... There's just way too much on the menu. If they fixed that then hands down, they'd attract more customers. In any case, they have my business. I love this place!
(4)Joseph E.
Pretty gross. Cashier looked and acted high. I guess the whole southern chicken/fish thing is not "fir" me. Way too salty. Way to greasy. They forgot my coke slaw. I didn't realize it until miles away. Blah!!
(2)Michael W.
Never again! I was shocked that a place entitled hip hop fish and chicken did not have fish sandwiches on their menu. I tried the chicken breasts which had as much meat as some wings ive had. The amount of salt and breading could not disquise this baby portioned heart attack of a meal. Too salty unless you like drinking from the dead sea! I guess i have to award a star but noercy here
(1)Sammy A.
Some of the best fried food in Baltimore! Wicked cheap specials on fried chicken by following these instructions: Bring two friends with appetites who love them some fried chicken. Split the HUGE 15 piece combo with a HUGE order of french fries included for like 15 bucks. Watch them sensually bread, deep fry & season your order & try to contain yourself. Rejoice in the warm happiness that is exceptional fried chicken. P.S. (Only thing I gotta say is that I have a HEAVY feeling that delicious seasoning has got some serious MSG in it :/ (delicious nonetheless))
(5)Mo J.
My company ordered several platters of their struggle wings. Nobody thought they were good. Those were the most malnourished chicken wings, fried to complete dryness, very hard to chew and swallow. It tasted like they were fried in fish grease with no other seasoning whatsoever (possibly a week old). My company had a hard time getting rid of all the wings they ordered. I have never actually been to this place but I never will thanks for that experience hip hop wings smh...

Holy Seasoning, Batman! My friend and I had a choice between KFC and Hip Hop Fish & Chicken for dinner. We walked into the small restaurant. It was relatively packed for a Sunday at 8 PM w/ snow falling. First thing I noticed was the price of the combo, $8.99 for your choice of fish and chicken + french fries, coleslaw, and bread. Cool. We both ended up choosing the Catfish Filet and some Chicken Tenders. It took about 10 minutes to make both our meals and then IT WAS ON. Wow. The fries had a perfect blend of salt & pepper with something giving it a little sweetness. The chicken was piping hot, but after that initial bite, I could hardly put it down. This is, hands down, the best fried chicken I have put inside my body EVER. I could not tell you what exactly they used to season/batter this chicken, but I want it for the rest of my life. The Catfish was really, really tasty. The batter used gave it this wonderful crispy texture which gave way to the delicious, soft interior. They had a very interesting BBQ sauce that had a delightful sweetness to work with the perfectly seasoned fries & chicken. I was rather surprised with the coleslaw. Although, the bread tasted like Wonderbread. Worst part of the meal. 10/10 would recommend eating here for the rest of my life. Looking forward to the future diabetes. 1/10 would not recommend eating the bread.
(5)Shanda C.
I got the four piece chicken wings with fries. The wings were on sizes.. The fries were OK... My experience wasn't the best or the worst. I think if I chose subway I would've been more happier. Would I go back? Probably.. But not for a while.
(3)Karen H.
I don't mind a little grease, sodium and fructose once in a while but my God when I do eat it I want it to taste good! Hip-hop's food is bland. End of story.
(1)Eudora G.
I had the fried chicken combo. It was so good. The chicken is fried per order. You can watch them bread and fry the order. The portions are large and at a great price. The corn nuggets are hot and delicious The half and half was so good. The Pineapple Upside Down cake was moist. We will go back.
(5)Crystal H.
I love coming here for fried fish!! Always good and seasoned well! Even the chicken is good! I am very pleased with the food that I order at Hip Hop!! The name is a bit obnoxious to me, but the food is worth it! The gentlemen who take the orders are extremely rude! I have yet to go in there and they are nice and inviting! You better know what you want and have your money ready cause they don't have any time for you to be unsure of anything! Even when they barely have anyone in there! However, the food is so good I will deal with the jerks who take your order and the ones who answer the phone! When I am in that area, I always try to get lunch or dinner from there! Love their desserts and the half and half that is a $1! They are very affordable with very generous portions! Totally love their food! I would give them 5 stars if the staff were nicer!
(4)Jakitra W.
Cannot say enough great location, wait times can be a little excessive but for good food you don't mind waiting . The prices aren't bad and they are not skimpy with the food so you can definently have leftovers the next day my husband loves their fried whiting and lake trout he would probably go there every other day if he could.

Whenever I come back to Maryland, I like to go to places I haven't been in a while, places I haven't been to, and places that I haven't seen in Chicago. So I saw Hip Hop Fish & Chicken and decided to see what the fuss is about. I go in and order a six-piece mix (3 legs, 3 wings, fries, coleslaw, bread) and a medium half and half. The gentleman that takes my order is friendly and patient. After paying, I take my ticket and wait. And wait. And wait some more after waiting. Good lord, the wait. I learned that the food is cooked to order, so call ahead if you're in a rush. The portions are tremendous for the price (I spent about $7). The chicken is pretty tasty, and hot. The seasoning looks and tastes as if it has some sugar in it, which is an interesting contrast with the other spices and chicken. I didn't care for the fries; they were a little too artificial tasting. Another reviewer was correct in her "candied veggies" assessment of the coleslaw. It was too sweet for my liking, but it wasn't awful. The bread was just a slice of Wonder Bread, so I didn't eat it. The half and half was perfect. Overall, I dug the cheap prices and the chicken. I'd come back for that, and maybe try some seafood and peach cobbler. The side dishes? Nah.

So I've been wanting to check this place out for a while. I didnt know there was one in Glen Burnie til it randomly popped up in the app. Well I finally went. Had the catfish nuggets and chicken livers. The place had a steady stream of people. Mostly take out orders and some people were ordering a TON of food. Which speaks for itself... good food.. people want it. I'm not to sure if my order was fried prior or at the time of. However, it was served very hot. I got the combo which included fries and the fries were crispy and seasoned well. The chicken livers could've used a bit longer in the fryer and a tad more seasoning. But it was still good. The wait time was alright. I saw some reviews here that it took forever to get their food. I waited for about 10-15mi which I thought was acceptable and normal. I'm not too much a fan of the area as Glen Burnie is pretty much blue collar ghetto but it is what it is. If your'e at the DMV head over here after.
(4)Rianna D.
I have had the perch, chicken, jalapeno poppers, and the fried okra. I have enjoyed all of it! The chicken is what keeps having me come back. Especially while I was pregnant, delicious! I am not too impressed with the staff but when I go they seem to always be busy so I understand. No one has ever been rude to me, which is good. The only thing I would say I am a little dissapointed about is the tiny little cup of coleslaw they give you...I feel like its being a litlte cheap, especially because I think their coleslaw is great! I will continue to go back here.
(4)Erica C.
Catfish. French fries. There is not much else that needs to be said. The food here is delicious. Whatever they put on the fries and fish is to die for. I am addicted and have driven from work in Columbia all the way to Glen Burnie to get fish after work during rush hour. The only thing that grates my nerves is having sit in that hot building. I cant wait until it gets cooler so that I can enjoy my food in bearable temperatures. I didnt take a star away because the place being hot and sweat dripping down my forehead doesnt keep me from feeding my face.
(4)Heather W.
I'm basing this solely on food and not ambiance or service. The restaurant itself isn't beautiful. Cheap tables and chairs, the drive thru has a sign saying that it's broken and to come inside. Service was better than expected after reading some of these reviews! Moe (or Mo) took my order and was very kind. Did everything with a smile. Food did take a long time to come out but everything was fresh, hot, and crispy. Everything on the menu is basically deep fried. I got the pick 2 - shrimp and catfish. Both delicious. My only complaint is that my breading didn't stick to the catfish as well as it did to other things. The larger order of shrimp still provided me with fairly large shrimp so I'm glad I didn't go with the 3 ct jumbo. They serve basically everything with bread and coleslaw. Coleslaw was good but it was overly sweet. Like eating candy veggies. The bread is just plain white wonder bread. This place is not afraid to flavor their breading or meats. I love that everything is so well seasoned. I can't wait to go back here and try more of their menu... once my cholesterol goes back down.
(5)Devin K.
This is some of the worst food I've eaten in a loooong time... The fries are covered in what seems to be garlic and cheese powder? Maybe some sugar... and salt... The fry itself is bland and soft... What were they thinking? I got 5 chicken tenders... They were obviously real chicken, so that was good... but the seasoning or the chicken itself... ulgh. It had an aftertaste of hospital or retirement home. I'm not sure if it's the seasoning or old oil, but good lord was that awful. I had to stop after 3 tenders... I was still hungry so I forced down a 4th (this was a few minutes ago, really nauseous now)... The cole slaw was fine. The restaurant was dingy, the drive thru was out of order, I've heard from a number of people that this place has the "best" chicken in town... Royal Farms and KFC beat this garbage hands down. Hell, I'd even go for some McDonalds chicken over this stuff. I didn't try the fish, not really a fan of any sort of bottom feeding fish, esp if it comes from the local area (which is absolutely disgusting).
(1)Mike L.
It's hard to buy better fried chicken! Everything on the menu is great -- tastes like homemade!
(5)Shawn W.
OK. I have only been there once but I am so looking forward to going back. It is what it is. If you are expecting upscale decorations and a romantic atmosphere this is not the place. This is for quick food and in and out service. I never had their seafood and I have to admit I will never try it. I think this place should just stick to chicken. Their food taste better than some so called soul food places in the area.

My boyfriend and I had tried the HHF&C location in Catonsville, and we loved their food, so we were thrilled to find a location in front of the bowling alley we always go to. It was stinking hot out on the day we visited, and their air conditioning was being fixed, so the atmosphere wasn't nearly as comfortable as it could have been - however, this doesn't really factor into the review - things happen. We did notice that this particular branch isn't NEARLY as busy or hopping as the one in Catonsville - perhaps fried chicken isn't quite as popular here? It's also a little more expensive here, as well. Our meals here cost 16 dollars - at the Catonsville branch it was 11, so pricing isn't consistent - good to know. I got a chance to try the fish, which I wasn't able to before; my boyfriend's combo meal was a chicken breast with lake trout, and of course the ubiquitous fries and white bread that come with every meal. The hot sauce comes in a squeeze bottle, which also differs from Catonsville; the hot sauce there is portioned out in little cups because everyone, everyone, EVERYONE asks for it. Not so at G.B. The food is still great. The fish was a very pleasant surprise and I think I'd maybe get that the next time I hit a HHF&C. Verdict: the food is as good, but the service/pricing at the Catonsville location is a bit better. Still, a worthy stop. Good food, good service. We'll be back.

Hip, hop. Hippie, the hippie to the hip-hip hoppa, ya don't stop the rockin' with this fried foodie, say up jumps this foodie... Here's where I'm going with this. Hip Hop Fish & Chicken was across the street from our hotel. The ridiculous name piqued my interest -- but not enough to go eat there. Then, some guy walked down the hall of our hotel carrying an aluminum tin of mouth-watering-smelling delicious wafting behind him, from Hip Hop. I had to have it. On Christmas Eve, you might be surprised at the number of individuals in here, from all walks of life, getting their family-fueling orders to go. We opted to eat in, and had a bit of a wait for a fast food joint. They're flash frying it up fresh, and when it was served, it was burn-your-mouth hot (as Phil can evidence). The menu has a good selection of combos and individual orders, so you can build the meal that works best for you. Entrees come with bread, fries, and coleslaw. The fries are what surprised me the most -- they put something on them... what is it? White, powdery, slightly sweet, slightly ranch-y? Garlic powder? Whatever it is, it's addictive. Also, take it from me, a Southerner's stance: You don't want the chicken here. You want the fish. The chicken -- woe! It had a tough skin, that wasn't seasoned in any way. The chicken itself was moist; but it was a pretty sad representation of what fried chicken can (and should) be. The fried catfish, on the other hand, was awesome. It has a very light breading enhanced with crushed black pepper. I only coated half of it in hot sauce, since I enjoyed it without! Portions are large; prices are pretty cheap. Not bad.
(4)John D.
I got the catfish dinner - it was fantastic. Made the mistake of ordering the larger size because it was so inexpensive - HUGE portion. I usually can't eat leftover fish, but this was so good it held up ok for the next day, and my wife and I both ate lunch from the leftovers. The slaw is great too! I'm definitely going back to try the chicken.
(4)Kofi F.
Ok the name of this place is odd but the food is amazing. I had the catfish nuggets and chicken wings it was real good and well seasoned. It's a real good cheap eat.
(5)Keith W.
It looks a little sketchy from the outside but it is finger licking good. I ordered the chicken breast and legs as part of the combo for $9. It came with fries (average), cole slaw (didn't try) and bread (just two pieces of white bread). The chicken was moist and battered excellently. It was greasy but not dripping. I walked in and did not expect to hear the afternoon muslim prayer from a chicken joint, but hey the food was good. When I go back I am going to try the sides.....
(4)Dawn C.
Fried chicken is hot, seasoned and very tasty. You will forget KFC, Popeyes and your chinese takeout after tasting this chicken. Call ahead to avoid the wait. There are tables for you to eat in but most people are just waiting for their order.
(4)Rick H.
First of all everything on the menu is fried. So if you don't like fried food, this is not the place for you. I have only had the fish. It is always very good. If y
(5)Tina F.
I heard about this spot and finally got the chance to try it. Being the seafood lover I am, I just had to put my stamp of approval of this spot, especially when I heard it was mainly seafood. I had the jumbo shrimp and tilapia. I also added a chicken leg. I must say, all of it was delicious. I could barely eat it all. Would I have it again, yes indeed and hopefully soon. How about bringing one closer to DC.
(4)Brandon P.
This is a place I would more expect to walk into while downtown in any city but not in Glen Burnie. I have been here several times and its very hit or miss when it comes to food and service. In general though the food is good and the service is slow. I call in my orders from now on to just try and limit my stay as this is really to a togo place for most. I would go again as the food is good but its not somewhere I would take a date to.
(4)Emily L.
Still amazing, but two important additions: fried mushrooms and okra. ORDER THEM BOTH.
(4)John M.
Good catfish nuggets. Wings have deteriorated over the past year. Service has become unsatisfactory over the past few months. Faces have changed and personnel character is now offensive. Cashier joking around and pushing his staff around.
(2)Neriza C.
Try the sweet corn poppers! You will not regret it! The catfish is seasoned like I have never had and can't get enough!
(5)Diondrea B.
Had the chicken Saturday and it was delicious!
(4)Clay K.
Very large portions and the fish was fresh....this is a must for a Saturday lunch...the price is good for all the food you get....
(5)Myrs M.
This hip hop is better than other locations I have been to. Service with a smile. The food is hot, fresh and some how the whiting has a special seasoning that requires no additional condiments. It is wonderful and I will drive past three locations by me to get to this location.
(5)Dennis J.
Really good fried comfort food. I laughed at the name until I tried the food, then I just smiled in glee!
(5)Terrence P.
I had a business lunch here last week. Everything we got was fried (catfish fillet, ocean perch, spicy green beans). The flavoring in the breading was great and the catfish was fresh and juicy. The only problem was that the serving size was massive! We could have shared a meal and had a tough time finishing all of the food. If they offered some non-fried or blackened fish, it would have been 5 stars.
(4)Sandy H.
Great spot for some legs and wings! I don't care for the fish and shrimp here, the taste is too fishy for me lol. But the chicken is tasty. A great place to order large quantity of chicken for parties and events. May I suggest it's best to call your order in ahead of time large or small. This place can get quite busy and crowded at times. I also highly suggest ordering to go. I have never eaten inside, not my type of eat in place. You will still have a small wait when you get there if you phone your order in....sometimes it's hard to understand them on the phone - I guess it depends on who answers the phone that day. At one point the size of the wings were starting to get smaller and smaller. They can be a bit stingy with fries too. But the taste of the chicken is the reason I give them 4 stars. If you have never been there for wings give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Sharon C.
I didn't even make it home before I began eating. I ordered the four wings and catfish nuggets for $8.99. It comes with french fries and coleslaw and bread. All items were hot fresh and delicious. I'll be returning to try other items on the menu. I didn't mind waiting especially since they made my order fresh if you are in a hurry call ahead for pickup.
(4)Sam W.
Avoided this place for a while because it looked sketchy as hell. I regret every time I passed this by. This place has my favorite chicken fingers. Once you order it they batter and fry it for you fresh. Everything has been awesome. Haven't had anything that I didn't like yet. They do not have fountain sodas but they charge a very reasonable price for 20 or 24oz bottles ($1.50). Wish this place was closer but it is definitely worth the 30 minute car ride to get here (and then shop at Shoprite after!)
(5)Alyssa M.
I am updating my review. My prior review was only a 2 star. They have improved to a 4 star. Fairly quick food. Cheap... 10 wings for 8.99... includes fries and coleslaw. Came piping hot. I think they put a little dusting of sugar on their fried chicken which is different but pretty yummy.
(4)Rafael B.
Tried this place when I was rarely new, coming from CA, and I found the experience to be lacking. Big kitchen small dining area so I figure this place is really meant for take out. The amount of food they give you is a lot but the flavor was majorly lacking..
(2)Nancy C.
I was a little put off by the outside appearance, glad I took a chance! I got the jumbo shrimp and tenders combo. This is the best chicken I've ever had. Hand-breaded and so juicy. The shrimp is so tasteful. Stop by this place!!!!
(5)
